It’s been described as the Oscars of the fashion world and the famous faces were out in force for this year’s Met Ball, hosted by Vogue. However, not everyone was a fan of the outlandish red-carpet look on display at this year’s event, which marks the opening night of the annual fashion exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Designers are often keen to get their latest creations seen on the red-carpet of this event, and for the celebrities in attendance, it really is one of the best places to ‘be seen’. While most of us might simply book an appointment at Rush Hair and pay a visit to the mall to look for a new dress before a big night out, those attending the Met Ball tend to go all out, displaying some of the most outlandish looks you’re likely to see on the red carpet for some time. The dresses might have been designed by everyone from Prada to Alexander McQueen, but that hasn’t made them an instant hit with fashion fans.
One of the stars who looked least comfortable in her quirky get-up was Kirsten Stewart. The Twilight actress is known for her grungy, tom-boy style, but made an extra effort for the event by wearing an unusual dress by Balenciaga. However, she looked rather uncomfortable in the ensemble (along with clunky shoes), and promptly changed into jeans and a leather jacket in time for the after-show.
Designer Marc Jacobs opted not to wear one of his own creations, but instead turned heads in a long lace dress from Japanese label, Comme des Garçons. It’s not the first time that Jacobs has been spotted in such an unconventional ensemble, but he still managed to outshine several of the ladies in attendance in this unusual get-up.
For now, it’s all back to normal on the fashion front, but we’re already looking forward to all the stylish oddities that next year’s ball is sure to present!
